Elijah was a powerful prophet of the Lord during the reigns of Ahab and Ahaziah in Israel. He confronted Baal worship, prayed for drought and rain, called Israel back to the Lord at Mount Carmel, and was taken into heaven in a whirlwind.
Biblical Usage
Elijah proclaimed the Lord’s judgment, demonstrated His power over Baal, called Israel back to the Lord, and prayed for drought and rain. He was a model of prayer, a forerunner-like figure associated with John the Baptist, and one who appeared in the New Testament’s prophetic expectation.
