ELECTION
Election is God’s gracious choice of people for special relationship, service, and salvation. Scripture presents it as mysterious and sovereign while also calling believers to faithful obedience and assurance.
Biblical Usage
The New Testament uses the term for divine selection affecting individuals and the Christian community, understood as the new Israel. Election is related to salvation from sin and condemnation and to preservation unto eternal life. It is not presented as fatalistic or mechanical, and it is associated with faith, obedience, humility, thanksgiving, and perseverance.
