Egg
Eggs are mentioned in Scripture as food and in illustrations involving birds, serpents, and an ostrich. Jesus used an egg to contrast a father’s good gift with the harmful gift of a scorpion.
Biblical Usage
Job speaks of the taste of an egg’s white, though the passage has also been rendered as referring to purslain. Isaiah uses the hatching of adders’ eggs figuratively for the schemes of evil people. Jesus contrasts an egg with a scorpion to illustrate a father’s good gift.
