EARTHLY

Doctrine & Theology • New Testament
Earthly means belonging to the earth or present human existence. Depending on context, it may simply contrast earthly and heavenly things, or describe values and wisdom limited in opposition to the spiritual.
Biblical Usage
Earthly things may be truths realized within human observation, the present bodily existence, or thoughts fixed on earthly pleasures. In James it describes wisdom that is merely human and does not come from above. In other passages the word is local rather than morally negative.
