DOCTRINE
Doctrine means teaching, whether the act of instruction or the truths taught. Biblical doctrine includes the teaching of Christ and the apostles concerning God, salvation, faith, and Christian life.
Biblical Usage
Jesus’ teaching was recognized as new and authoritative, in contrast with the fixed tradition of the Pharisees. The earliest apostolic teaching proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ, that He had risen, and that salvation was through faith in His name. Later epistles emphasize sound or healthy doctrine as a body of truth serving as a standard of orthodoxy.
