Den
A den is a lair, cave, pit, or hidden recess used by wild animals, fugitives, or criminals. Daniel was famously cast into a den of lions as punishment under the rule of Darius.
Biblical Usage
The Bible describes dens of wild beasts, recesses and caves used for hiding, thieves’ dens, and Daniel’s den of lions. Dens and caves also sheltered Israelites during oppression.
