Deacon
A deacon is a servant or minister appointed for practical service in the church. The office is associated with caring for church needs, distributing aid, maintaining order, and supporting the apostles’ ministry of the word.
Biblical Usage
The office arose when seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, were appointed to oversee the daily distribution to widows. The New Testament also gives qualifications for deacons, including faithful conduct and ability suited to service and teaching.
