Damascus was an ancient and important city of Syria, watered by the Abana and Pharpar rivers. It was the place where Saul encountered the risen Christ, was converted, and began preaching Jesus as the Son of God.
Biblical Usage
Damascus appears repeatedly in the history of Israel and Syria. It was the scene of Saul’s conversion, where he preached Jesus as the Son of God, and it became a center from which Christianity spread.
