Cyrus was the Persian ruler who conquered Babylon and issued the decree allowing the Jewish exiles to return and rebuild the temple. Isaiah also presents him as God’s appointed shepherd and anointed instrument for Israel’s restoration.
Biblical Usage
Cyrus is presented as God’s shepherd and anointed servant for Israel’s restoration. His decree fulfilled the return of the Jews and the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple.
