Cyrene
Cyrene was a Greek city in North Africa with a substantial Jewish population. Simon who carried Jesus’ cross came from Cyrene, and Cyrenians were present at Pentecost and helped establish the church at Antioch.
Biblical Usage
Simon, who carried Jesus’ cross, was from Cyrene. Cyrenian Jews were present at Pentecost and had a synagogue in Jerusalem. Converts from Cyrene helped form the church at Antioch, and Lucius of Cyrene served there.
