Cupbearer
A cupbearer was a high-ranking court official responsible for serving the king’s wine. Because the office required exceptional trust, the cupbearer could enjoy close access to and influence with the monarch.
Biblical Usage
The chief cupbearer of Pharaoh appears in Joseph’s history. Nehemiah was cupbearer to Artaxerxes, and cupbearers are mentioned among the splendors of Solomon’s court seen by the queen of Sheba.
