Crown of thorns
The crown of thorns was a wreath of thorny branches placed on Jesus by Roman soldiers in mockery of His kingship. The exact plant used cannot be determined with certainty.
Biblical Usage
The crown of thorns is mentioned in the accounts of Jesus’ mockery and passion in Matthew, Mark, and John. It represented a caricature of a royal or victor’s wreath placed upon the captive Christ.
