Congregation
The congregation was the assembled people of Israel as a holy community. It gathered for worship, receiving God’s commands, national decisions, and solemn assemblies, often at the tabernacle.
Biblical Usage
The congregation gathered at the tabernacle for solemn worship, to receive commandments, and on occasions of national importance. It was summoned by the sound of silver trumpets, while elders could represent the whole body. In the New Testament, the term appears in Acts 13:43 where the same word is elsewhere translated synagogue.
