Color in Scripture describes natural objects, clothing, precious materials, and ritual fabrics. Colors such as white, black, red, purple, blue, and scarlet may also carry symbolic meanings.
Biblical Usage
White signifies purity, innocence, joy, and victory; black is associated with evil, mourning, affliction, and calamity; red signifies bloodshed; and purple suggests royalty and majesty. Blue and scarlet occur prominently in the tabernacle and priestly garments. Scarlet thread also appears in cleansing rites and in Rahab’s sign.
