Clean
Law & Covenant • Both
In Scripture, clean may describe physical purity, ceremonial acceptability, or moral and spiritual purity. Under the Mosaic law, clean animals, persons, places, and objects were distinguished from those that caused ceremonial defilement.
Biblical Usage
The principal biblical use is ceremonial, especially in the laws distinguishing clean from unclean animals and conditions. The ritual idea also becomes a figure for inward purity: clean hands, a pure heart, spiritual cleansing, and freedom from guilt.
