Cattle included herds of oxen, sheep, and goats, which supplied food, sacrifices, clothing materials, transport, agricultural labor, and wealth in biblical society.
Biblical Usage
Cattle appear in laws concerning restitution, ownership, work, feeding, and yoking. Oxen were used for plowing and burdens; sheep and goats were used for food and sacrifice. Flocks also provide imagery for God’s people.
