CANDLESTICK, THE GOLDEN
The golden candlestick, or lampstand, was a seven-branched lampstand of pure gold in the tabernacle and temple. Its lamps gave light in the holy place, and its imagery later symbolized God’s witnessing people.
Biblical Usage
In the tabernacle it stood on the south side of the holy place and supplied light from evening until morning. Solomon’s temple had ten lampstands, while the second and Herodian temples had one. Zechariah and Revelation use the lampstand symbolically of God’s witnessing people or church.
