BRIDE-CHAMBER, SONS (CHILDREN) OF THE
The “sons of the bride-chamber” were the friends and companions of the bridegroom who joined the wedding procession and feast. In the Gospel passages, the expression refers to Jesus’ disciples.
Biblical Usage
In Matthew 9:15, Mark 2:19, and Luke 5:34, the expression refers to the disciples of Christ. The question concerns whether such companions should fast while the bridegroom is present.
