Blindness

Christian Life • Both
Blindness was common in biblical lands and could result from disease, injury, age, or birth. Scripture commands care for the blind, records miraculous healings, and uses blindness as a picture of spiritual inability to perceive truth.
Biblical Usage
The giving of sight to the blind is repeatedly presented as a mighty work of the Messiah. Jesus healed blind people in different ways, and Scripture records blindness affecting Eli, Ahijah, Isaac, Paul, Elymas, and others. Blindness also disqualified a priest from priestly service, while the law required care for the blind.
