Birds
Birds are frequently mentioned in Scripture as creatures preserved by God, used for food and sacrifice, and employed in poetry and figurative comparisons. Birds of prey, songbirds, doves, and other species appear throughout the biblical narrative.
Biblical Usage
Birds were preserved in the ark, appeared in Abraham’s sacrifice, and were attracted to the carcasses of sacrificed animals. Scripture uses them in comparisons, similes, and metaphors, and refers to their use in sacrifice, food, hunting, song, and signs of desolation.
