Bird
Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
Birds were used as food and, under the Mosaic law, were distinguished as clean or unclean. Certain clean birds could be offered in sacrifice, while birds also appear in Scripture as objects of hunting, comparison, and poetic observation.
Biblical Usage
Birds appear in sacrificial regulations, descriptions of snaring, references to singing and nesting, and comparisons emphasizing timidity or shelter. The sparrow and swallow are used in a comparison concerning the security associated with God’s altars.
