Bildad
People & Groups • Old Testament
Bildad the Shuhite was one of Job’s three friends. He delivered speeches defending the traditional view that suffering reveals wickedness, and his counsel was ultimately shown to be inadequate.
Biblical Usage
Bildad argued that suffering reveals wickedness and appealed to tradition and wisdom teaching. He indirectly accused Job’s children and increasingly identified Job’s condition with the fate of the wicked. His final brief speech was the last utterance of Job’s friends.
