Benjamin was Jacob’s youngest son, born to Rachel. His descendants formed the tribe of Benjamin, which received territory between Ephraim and Judah and included Saul and the apostle Paul among its notable members.
Biblical Usage
Benjamin’s family and tribe appear throughout Israel’s history. The tribe endured near extermination in civil war, produced Saul the first king of Israel, became closely allied with Judah, and is represented in the New Testament by Paul of Tarsus.
