BENEDICTION
A benediction is a spoken blessing or prayer for God’s favor. In Israel, the Aaronic priests pronounced the blessing of Numbers 6; the practice continued in Christian worship through scriptural blessings such as 2 Corinthians 13:14.
Biblical Usage
The benediction placed the name of Yahweh upon the people. Scripture records blessings in Israel’s worship and family life, while the Christian church continued the practice through apostolic blessings, including the form commonly used from 2 Corinthians 13:14.
