Beersheba
Beersheba means “well of the oath” or “well of seven.” Abraham and Abimelech made an oath there, and the city became the southern limit in the expression “from Dan to Beersheba.”
Biblical Usage
Beersheba was a favored dwelling place of Abraham and Isaac and a sacred place where the patriarchs called on God. “From Dan to Beersheba” became a customary expression for the whole land of Israel. It was also associated with later worship, including the rival shrine condemned by Amos.
