Barabbas
Barabbas was a notorious prisoner involved in rebellion and murder. At the Passover, Pilate released him at the crowd’s demand instead of Jesus, who was then crucified.
Biblical Usage
Barabbas’ release occurred in preference to Jesus, whom Pilate wished to release but then delivered to crucifixion. The Gospel accounts describe him as a notable prisoner, a robber, and one associated with an insurrection in which murder occurred.
