Baptism of Christ
The baptism of Christ was His submission to John’s baptism as the appointed Messiah. Though sinless, Jesus publicly identified Himself with His people and began His obedient ministry, fulfilling all righteousness.
Biblical Usage
Jesus’ baptism publicly recognized him as the Messiah whose coming had been anticipated by prophecy and types. His submission also symbolized the suffering that lay before him. The event distinguishes Christ’s sinless person from his official work as the surety of his people.
