A banner was a flag or standard used to identify tribes, rally soldiers, or signal an assembly. Scripture also uses it figuratively for God’s protection, presence, and victory.

Scripture uses banners literally for Israel’s tribal organization, military mustering, and signals. Figuratively, God’s banner signifies his presence, protection, help, and aid to his people. The banner also represents a rallying point for God’s people.
