Band
Band can mean a cord, bond, chain, or fastening, and can also mean a company of people or soldiers. In the New Testament it commonly refers to a Roman cohort.
Biblical Usage
Scripture uses bands for cords of love, bonds of captivity, chains, the union of Christ’s body, the brotherhood of Judah and Israel, and companies of soldiers. The Roman band involved in Jesus’ arrest and trial was a cohort, generally numbering about four hundred to six hundred men.
