Areopagus
The Areopagus, or Mars Hill, was a rocky height at Athens and the seat of an ancient council. Paul preached there to Athenian philosophers and hearers who were devoted to various forms of worship.
Biblical Usage
Paul delivered his address to the Athenians at the Areopagus, speaking to hearers associated with Stoic and Epicurean philosophy and addressing their religious observance and altar to an unknown god. One member, Dionysius, believed.
