Anakim
The Anakim were a tall and formidable people who lived chiefly in southern Canaan, especially around Hebron. Joshua defeated them in the conquest, though remnants remained in several Philistine cities.
Biblical Usage
The spies compared the Anakim with the Nephilim and their appearance frightened Israel. Joshua expelled them from the hill country, though remnants remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod. Caleb received Hebron after the Anakim were dispossessed.
