Amos
Amos was a shepherd and dresser of sycamore trees from Tekoa in Judah whom God called to prophesy during the reigns of Uzziah and Jeroboam II. He confronted Israel’s idolatry, injustice, luxury, and moral corruption while proclaiming judgment and future restoration.
Biblical Usage
Amos prophesied against surrounding nations, Judah, and especially Israel. His message includes judgments, descriptions of Israel’s spiritual condition, five prophetic visions, a dispute with the priest of Bethel, and a concluding promise of restoration and glory in the Messiah’s kingdom.
