Abner

Abner was the son of Ner, cousin of Saul, and commander of Saul’s army. After Saul’s death he supported Ish-bosheth, but later sought to unite Israel under David before Joab killed him.
Biblical Usage
Abner introduced David to Saul after David’s victory over Goliath and served as commander under Saul and Ish-bosheth. He proclaimed Ish-bosheth king, later negotiated with David, and was murdered by Joab. David publicly mourned him as a prince and great man in Israel.
