Abarim
Places & Geography • Old Testament
Abarim was the mountain region east of the Jordan, in the land of Moab, facing Jericho. Mount Nebo and Pisgah were among its heights; from there Moses viewed the Promised Land before his death.
Biblical Usage
The Israelites encamped in the mountains of Abarim after crossing the Arnon. From Mount Nebo, a summit of Abarim, Moses viewed the Promised Land before his death. The term is also associated with the Mounds of Abarim, a station farther southeast on Israel’s journey.
