Aaron
Aaron was the elder brother of Moses and Miriam and the first high priest of Israel. He served as Moses’ spokesman, led Israel’s worship at the tabernacle, and was succeeded in the priesthood by his son Eleazar, though he was also involved in Israel’s sin at the golden calf and Meribah.
Biblical Usage
Aaron represented Moses before Israel and Pharaoh and performed signs at Moses’ direction. He served as high priest, receiving and presenting offerings, while alone entering the Holy of Holies on the great Day of Atonement. His priesthood was divinely confirmed when his rod budded, blossomed, and produced almonds. Scripture also records his failure in making the golden calf, his participation in the rebellion against Moses, and his exclusion from the Promised Land because of the sin at Meribah.
