Zaccur
Zaccur is the name of several Old Testament men, including the father of a spy, a Simeonite, Levites, a singer associated with Asaph, and a builder or official in the time of Nehemiah.
Definition
Zaccur, meaning “mindful,” was the name of several men. They included the father of the Reubenite spy Shammua, a Simeonite, Merarite and other Levites, a son of Asaph associated with the singers, and the son of Imri who helped build Jerusalem’s wall. The name also occurs in connection with a scribe and a marginal reading in Ezra.
Biblical Usage
Zaccur appears in genealogies, Levitical records, the organization of David’s singers, and the rebuilding and administration of Jerusalem in Nehemiah’s time.
Historical Background
The name is also written Zacchur in the Simeonite record. One occurrence is a marginal reading in Ezra for Zabbud.
