Jahaziel was the name of several men, including a Benjamite who joined David, a priest who sounded trumpets before the ark, and a Levite prophet who encouraged Jehoshaphat and Judah to trust God in battle.
Definition
Jahaziel was the name of several men, including a Benjamite or Judean recruit of David, a priest appointed to sound trumpets before the ark, a Levite of the family of Hebron, an Asaphite prophet, and an ancestor of a family of the Restoration.
Biblical Usage
Jahaziel served in several biblical settings: he joined David at Ziklag, participated in the musical procession of the ark, and encouraged Jehoshaphat and Judah to face the Moabite and Ammonite invasion.
Historical Background
The name occurs in genealogical, royal, worship, prophetic, and postexilic contexts. Some ancient readings substitute Uzziel in certain passages, but the supplied material presents this as a textual variation.
