Baal-hazor
Baal-hazor was a place near Ephraim where Absalom held a sheep-shearing feast and arranged the death of Amnon.
Definition
Baal-hazor was a place beside Ephraim, on or near Absalom’s property. Absalom’s sheep-shearers gathered there, and the occasion became a feast at which Absalom arranged the death of Amnon. The site may be identified with Tell Asur, but the identification is not certain.
Biblical Usage
Baal-hazor is remembered as the setting of Absalom’s sheep-shearing festival and his revenge against Amnon for the outrage against Tamar.
Historical Background
The proposed site, Tell Asur, lies northeast of Bethel and rises high above the surrounding country. The place was known in the time of Eusebius, but the supplied material presents the identification as probable rather than certain.

Having a courtyard, or Baal’s village, the place on the borders of Ephraim and Benjamin where Absalom held the feast of sheep-shearing when Amnon was assassinated (2 Sam. 13:23). Probably it is the same with Hazor (Neh. 11:33), now Tell’ Asur, 5 miles north-east of Bethel.

<p>ba-al-ha'-zor ba`al chatsor; Bailasor, Bel-la-sor: A place on the property of Absalom where his sheep-shearers were gathered, beside Ephraim (2Sa 13:23). The sheep-shearing was evidently the occasion of a festival which was attended by Absalom's brethren. Here he compassed the death of Amnon in revenge for the outrage upon his sister. The place may be identified with Tell `Asur, a mountain which rises 3,318 ft. above the sea, 4 miles Northeast of Bethel. rine Kubbet el Baul may retain the old name.</p>
