Azriel
Azriel was the name of several men, including a leader of eastern Manasseh taken captive by Assyria, a Naphtalite ancestor, and the father of an official in Jehoiakim’s reign.
Definition
Azriel was the name of several men. One was a leading man of the half-tribe of Manasseh east of the Jordan; another was the father of Jerimoth of Naphtali; and another was the father of Seraiah, an officer in Jehoiakim’s reign. The name means “God’s help” or “whom God helps.”
Biblical Usage
The Manassite Azriel was carried captive by the king of Assyria with others of his tribe. The other bearers appear in genealogical and royal administrative records.
Historical Background
