The Taking of Christ

The figures have been placed amidst a dark background with the sole light source being that of the lantern. Besides the chiaroscuro lighting arrangement, the life-like presentation of figures, dramatic presentation and spiritual dimension takes it to a different level altogether.

Here, the arrest of Christ has been portrayed. Apart from Jesus, the other figures present include John, three soldiers, Judas, as well as a man with a lantern in hand.

This Baroque painting is an oi on canvas, measures 133.5 cm × 169.5 cm (52.6 in × 66.7 in) and is housed in the National Gallery of Ireland.
