"Cristo in Pietà Sorretto Dalle Donne"

From 1497 to 1512 Bergognone worked on several paintings to decorate several churches in Milan, Italy.

His style is noted for the faint and clear colouring he uses, whether in fresco, tempera or oil; his somewhat slender and pallid types, reminiscent of northern art; the conflict of his instinctive love of placidity and calm with a somewhat forced and borrowed energy in figures where energy is demanded; his conservatism in the matter of storied and minutely diversified backgrounds.
