"Sacrifice of Isaac"

This painting is one of the most deeply thought out and skillfully done of the ovals on the ceiling of the Sala Superiore. In its strongly marked context of shades, in the three dimensional strength of the forms the painter captures the moment when Abraham is stopped by the Angel just when he is about to take the life of his son Isaac, thus obeying the will of God.
